Fiesta is crowned UK’s favourite car
FAMILY favourite the Ford Fiesta has been named king of the road.
The hatchback is the nation’s most popular car with almost 1.97 million motors sold since 2001, putting it ahead of the Ford Focus on 1.91 million.
Research showed 46 million cars have been registered by new owners in the past 20 years and hatchbacks are leading the race.

THERE could only be one choice of beer for this kingfisher as he eyed lunch at his favourite watering hole.

Keith, who weeks ago snapped a kingfisher on a fishing rod, said: “After that a friend left me a gift on my doorstep... a bottle of Kingfisher.
“He said, ‘I bet you can’t get it to land on that’.
“I thought, ‘Challenge accepted’.”
Bird lands on lager sixth place. Cars that have broken into the annual charts but not made the greatest of the past 20 years list include the Mini Cooper which was number 10 in 2018 with 40,296 registrations. Leasing firm Riverdale, which analysed DVLA figures, said: “Since 2001, Ford has been the UK’s most popular car brand, with 312,528 new registrations per year – almost 60,000 more than any other auto-maker.” The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV scooped the title for the most popular electric car of the past 20 years.
