TYLER WANTS THE HIGH LIFE

- BY DAVID ANDERSON

TYLER ROBERTS claims Leeds must aim higher than just surviving next season.

United have comfortably achieved their target of staying up in their first campaign back in the Premier League after 16 years away, and are on course to record their best finish since 2002.

But Roberts (top), whose side visit West Ham on Monday, said: “We always had the belief we could do well and wouldn’t be sucked into a relegation battle.

“We’ve picked up some great results and points, so I’m sure we can grow from this and keep getting stronger.

“Even at this point, the boys want to be higher in the table, so we are looking forward rather than behind us.

“Next season the job will be to finish even higher, rather just to keep out of the relegation zone. But we still have to keep focused and finish the job well this year first.”

Striker Roberts, 22, has contributed two assists in his last four appearances, operating behind Patrick Bamford, and knows he needs to keep improving if he is going to become a regular under Marcelo Bielsa (below).

“I want more starts, but that’s down to me and my training,” he said. “I’m happy the manager has trusted me to come on in games and start in others.

“It’s good to go up against the best players and test yourself, but I know I am still young so I have a lot left to come and a lot to offer.

“I definitely know I can push on and that’s what I’m looking to do.

“There are some areas of my game I need to get better at, but I am under a great manager and have kicked on massively.

“Hopefully, I can try and get more minutes, more games and kick on even further.”
