RHYS STOKES HIS HOPES OF MORE GLORY

- BY NEIL GOULDING TOMMY SMITH (STOKE)

DEFENDER Rhys NorringtonDavies aims to add to his goals tally after getting off the mark for Stoke City.

The 6ft left-back (above), on loan from Sheffield United, set City on their way against basement boys Wycombe with a sweet finish on 64 minutes.

“It was a great pass from Steven Fletcher to create the chance and I’m pleased with how I took it,” he said. “I like to get forward and scoring goals is something I’m looking to add to my game.

“It’s important to spread the goals around and the defenders need to contribute as well. They made us work hard for it, but we deserved the win in the end.”

Fellow defender Harry Soutter wrapped up the game by heading home from a Tommy Smith corner. More goals from his defenders is an area Potters boss Michael O’Neill is keen to exploit.

“I’m delighted for Harry because I’ve given him some stick recently about not doing enough in the opposition box,” he said.

“When you have his height it’s an asset to us and something he needs to develop.”

Ryan Tafazolli had a chance to put Wanderers ahead but Angus Gunn saved well from his header.

Boss Gareth Ainsworth admitted Wycombe must improve in front of goal at both ends.

“The moments of quality in both boxes are the difference at this level,” he said.

“We had a fantastic chance before they scored and they are the moments that can change the game. You have to make them count.

“I don’t like conceding from set plays and we need to be better.”

JAMES COPPINGER marked another milestone by setting up both Rovers goals.

The midfielder, 40, assisted Tom Anderson and Omar Bogle in his 600th league game for the club. Niall Ennis pulled one back but Coppinger tweeted: “I’ll sleep tonight.”

Plymouth boss Ryan Lowe said: “We had 21 chances and only scored one.”

GAVIN WHYTE bagged both goals as the Tigers reclaimed top spot with their third successive victory.

Hull boss Grant McCann praised the Northern Ireland midfielder, who is on loan from Cardiff.

He said: “Gavin was part of a Cardiff team that got to the top six of the Championship, he’s a top player, an international player.”
