VETERAN skating duo Torvill and Dean are rushing to learn a new routine from scratch for the Dancing on Ice final.

The Olympic champions pre-recorded display skates before the ITV series began, including the one for Sunday night.

But they have all been shown to fill screen time left by all the injuries and problems on the show.

Christopher Dean, 62, said: “It’s all hands on deck. And I feel like I’ve been through the wars. We’ve just been lifting and skating for the last two days and it’s gone crazy.

“You would think after 47 years we wouldn’t fall over, but we did.”

Jayne Torvill, 63, added: “No, you fell over. I just landed on top of you!”

SCIENTISTS are a step closer to a potentially game-changing test to diagnose Parkinson’s.

They said a study showed it is possible to identify the disease based on skin compounds.

It offers hope a new test could be developed to diagnose the degenerative illness by a simple swab.

The University of Manchester’s Prof Perdita Barran said: “Not only is the test quick, simple and painless but it should be extremely cost-effective.”

A DINOSAUR has been unearthed sitting on a nest with fossilised babies in 12 eggs – a world first.

The 3ft winged oviraptosaur had a beak, claws and lizard-like tail.

Dr Shundong Bi, of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, called it a “spectacular specimen”.

Dr Bi said the dino in southern China’s Jiangxi Province incubated eggs at a relatively high temperature, like its bird relatives.

Dr Matthew Lamanna said the dino, which died 70 million years ago, “was a caring parent that... gave its life while nurturing its young”.

It is also the first oviraptorid found with “gastroliths” – stones eaten to aid digestion – in its stomach. The discovery is reported in Science Bulletin.

A SOUPED-up mobility scooter fitted with a motorbike engine has been confiscated by police.

There had been reports of the scooter being driven in “an anti-social and dangerous manner”.

One social media user said: “Full marks for both ingenuity and stupidity, a dangerous combination.”

Police released images of the scooter after it was seized in Stockton-onTees, Co Durham, but no arrests were made and inquiries are continuing.

BICYCLE sales and repairs are soaring, says Halfords.

The retailer says it has carried out more than 300,000 free bike checks and 750,000 repairs or services so far this year.

A survey for the firm found two in five adults had used their bikes more frequently in the past year.

Paul Tomlinson, of Halfords, said: “We have helped repair thousands of bikes through the Government’s Fix Your Bike Voucher Scheme. This demand looks set to stay.”
