TV Kelly: I’m so nervous about being single again

SKY Sports host Kelly Cates says she is daunted about dating again in her mid-40s after splitting from her husband.

The daughter of football legend Sir Kenny Dalglish has separated from TV producer Tom Cates and is now finalising her divorce.

They were married in 2007 and have two daughters aged nine and 12.

Glasgow-born Kelly, 45, revealed she is nervous about being single again as she doesn’t think people will find her attractive.

She also said she is reluctant to go on dates with strangers because she doesn’t want her time wasted.

Kelly added: “I don’t have a picture in my head of why a middle-aged, slightly overweight, mother-of-two could possibly be attractive.”

The presenter, who also works for Radio 5 Live, added that her dating options had been limited in recent months because of the coronavirus pandemic restrictions.

And she joked she may have to get somebody else to write her profile on dating websites to avoid putting potential dates off.

Speaking to fellow sports presenter Gabby Logan on The Mid Point podcast, Kelly added she does not want to spend her precious free time with a random person.

She said: “Imagine going out with somebody and you sit there halfway through and think, ‘God, this guy’s an idiot.’ You’ve just wasted a babysitter.

“I’m making myself sound completely unpickable.”

WINDS of up to 86mph battered parts of Britain yesterday, creating spectacular scenes at the seaside, but causing travel chaos.

One HGV was caught by the wind and overturned on the A69 between Hexham and Corbridge in Northumberland.

And a car fell foul of the weather, crashing off the road at Isle of Axholme, Lincs. Humberside Police posted: “Weather conditions not great, strong winds and driving

rain. Drive with care and you won’t end up like this!” There was trouble on the trains, too. In Tonbridge, Kent, a trampoline blown on to a line lodged under a train, which “thankfully had no passengers”, said Southern Trains. Winds of 86mph were recorded near the Welsh coast, while 69mph gusts were recorded in Chivenor, Devon. The 2,086ft Kinder Scout waterfall,

in the Peak District, was seen being blown upwards in the wind.

Stormy seas created huge waves at Newhaven lighthouse in East Sussex, and along the promenade on New Brighton Beach, Merseyside.

The RNLI warned that people on cliffs, seafronts or piers were at “severe risk”. Head of water safety Gareth Morrison said: “In a normal year around 150 people lose their lives at the coast. We know more than half of those never intended to be in the water. “So whether you are walking, running or cycling at the coast, please be extra responsible. Avoid taking unnecessary risks or entering the water.”

Two swimmers at Seaford beach, in East Sussex, seemed to get the message, admiring the waves from the shore. The high winds are likely to continue into the weekend. Some forecasters believe there could be snowfall over Easter in parts of the UK.
