A LOCKDOWN boom in pet ownership has triggered a national shortage of some cat and dog foods.

The three million people who brought animals into their homes have certainly given producers something to chew over.

HUNDREDS of civil servants will be moved to Glasgow under plans to open a second headquarte­rs of the Cabinet Office.

At least 500 staff in Michael Gove’s department will reportedly be relocated by 2024.

According to the Financial Times, permanent secretary Alex Chisholm told staff: “As a department with a key responsibi­lity for the union, it is appropriat­e we strengthen our presence in Scotland.”

It is the latest Whitehall department to move staff out of London.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak this month said hundreds of Treasury jobs will move to Darlington. And Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick said a second office for his department would open in Wolverhamp­ton.

PEOPLE across the UK will be asked to take part in a doorstep vigil on March 23 to reflect on the lives lost to coronaviru­s and the grief endured by those left behind. Boris Johnson and other political leaders have backed plans by charity Marie Curie for a national day of reflection on the anniversar­y of the first lockdown. Following a minute’s silence at noon, the nation will be requested to stand on doorsteps and shine a light at 8pm as a “beacon of remembranc­e” for more than 125,000 people who have died during the crisis.

The Prime Minister said: “This has been an incredibly difficult year for our country.

“My thoughts are with all those who have lost loved ones and who have not been able to pay tribute to them in the way they would have wanted. “Labour leader Keir Starmer added: “Moments like this can send a powerful message that, as a society, we are there for each other.”
