Teacher, 66, banned after ‘falling over drunk’

-

A BOOZY primary school teacher has been banned for two years after “falling over drunk” – and knocking into a child.

Angela Simonson, 66, was found with an open can of Stella hidden in an unlocked cupboard in her class for eight and nine-year-olds.

Colleagues reported she was “stinking of drink” at Central Primary School, Port Talbot, a misconduct hearing was told. Mrs

Simonson, a teacher for 40 years, denied drinking at school and said her behaviour was caused by medication she was taking, highheeled boots and bad breath.

Lunchtime supervisor Christine

Jarvis said: “She knocked into one of the children.. she was quite literally falling over drunk.”

An Education Workforce Council fitness to practice panel issued a two-year teaching ban.

A TRIPLE amputee Royal Marine who was told he would never walk again has raised over £140,000 by running 5km on his prosthetic legs.

Mark Ormrod lost both legs and part of his right arm in a blast in

Afghanistan in 2007. After finishing yesterday’s run for new veterans’ charity Reorg in around 90 minutes he joked: ”I hate running. I didn’t even like it when I had legs.”

Mark’s fundraising target of £5,000 was smashed after a video of him falling in training went viral.

The total soared again as he took to the track in Tavistock, Devon.

Since doctors told the dad of three from Plymouth that he would never walk again, let alone run, he has won 11 Invictus Games medals.

He is also a motivational speaker and a trustee of Reorg, which helps military personnel and emergency service staff through martial arts.
