Killer could be out of jail next year

FORMER girlfriends of the Suzy Lamplugh murder suspect are still under police protection after reportedly helping put him in jail.
They fear John Cannan could try to take revenge if he is released when he becomes eligible for parole next year.
Cannan, 67, is serving three life terms for the murder of Shirley Banks in 1987 – the year after Suzy went missing – as well as a rape and an attempted abduction of two other women.
An ex said he contacted her in 1986, around the time Suzy vanished and soon after he had left jail after five years for a previous rape. She said she had moved home and changed her name and job while he was in jail.
She added: “He asked to see me. He said, ‘I’ve changed while I was in prison. I’ve been out three months and I’m going straight’. I called the police and they told me, ‘He’s not been out three months, he’s been out three days’. I’ve no idea how he found me so quickly’.”
The woman said police PAROLE Convicted killer Cannan installed a panic alarm at her home. She added: “I’m really scared to think he is so close to being released again. “He is still capable of inflicting terrible damage. The thought of what he might do keeps me awake at night.” Retired Met detective Jim Dickie, who led a probe into Suzy’s case, said: “Any woman who rejects him, he responds in a really violent and threatening way so there is a real issue about seeking revenge on his ex-girlfriends.”
Suzy vanished in Fulham, South West London, in July 1986 after leaving her office to show a buyer called “Mr Kipper” around a property. This was reportedly Cannan’s nickname at a nearby bail hostel, and he resembled an e-fit of the man who abducted Suzy. In 2000 the Met named him as the only suspect in her disappearance but there was not enough evidence to charge him. He was jailed in 1989 for the abduction and murder of Shirley, 30, in Bristol.
