Tory lead in polls an absolute joke

- Edited by FIONA PARKER

CAN’T people see what is blatantly being done to them and in their name? This Government is successfully pulling the wool over their eyes. The Tories are 10 points ahead in the polls despite more than 125,000 deaths due to mismanagement of the pandemic.

What better time to quietly chip away at the democracy we hold dear, redrawing constituency boundaries while packing the Lords with unelected cronies.

The wilful misuse of public money spread around a blatant chumocracy seems to have no effect on voters. And now, they use Covid restrictions to crack down on legitimate protest.

This is not Myanmar, it’s one of the world’s oldest democracies. This Government portrays itself as libertarian while robbing working people of their rights – and the irony is we voted for it. Frightening. Alan Mercer, Euxton, Lancs

I fear I won’t see another Labour government in my lifetime as the polls put the Tories way ahead. Nearly every day we see Johnson in a hospital or lab bumping elbows. How often do we see Keir Starmer? He seems to be a nice bloke but we need a Rottweiler to savage Boris. Labour needs to mount a concerted challenge to the Tory lies. Put large posters all over stating the mess they’ve made of Covid, have black buses touring with 125,000 unnecessary deaths written on the sides. It will take a lot of cash, though, something Tories aren’t short of.

Jim Temlett, Dursley, Glos

Is it just me or has this country gone mad? How can the Tories be 10 points ahead of Labour in any poll? They’ve been useless from the start of the pandemic.

Some 125,000-plus have died, billions wasted on failed test and trace, too slow to lock down, too slow to close borders, schools in complete chaos.

The only reason the vaccine programme has been so successful is the fact that ministers have little to do with it.

Heads should roll after this terrible performance. I just can’t believe there are so many gullible people in this country – I fear for my grandchildren.

It’s time for Sir Keir Starmer to start the fightback before it’s too late. We have passed 125,000 deaths and still the Tories have a 10-point lead, having wasted billions of pounds on awarding contracts to their friends in the private sector.

They have failed on so many important issues, including the shutting of our borders, and now Labour is silent while the Tories are taking credit for the success of the vaccine programme.

G Hunt, Derby

All this talk about Boris being a poor leader, but surely Starmer is even worse. We’re seeing billions wasted on track and trace, an increase in unemployment and poverty like never before, and still the Tories are 10 points ahead.

Perhaps it’s time for Starmer to step aside for someone who can actually lead the Labour Party and rip into this appalling Government. Allan Jones, Swansea

There needs to be a football-style card system implemented in the House of Commons whereby an unsubstantiated claim sees a yellow card issued by the Speaker and a further transgression in the same session incurs a red card and removal. Seeing our PM taking “the walk of shame” might convince our passive public how unwholesome the leader of our country is. Steve Bowman

West Hallam, Derbys

Staunch Labour supporters like myself are flummoxed at this Tory lead. It seems people believe bumbling Boris and his smoke and mirrors claims. Labour leader Keir Starmer should go for the jugular at Prime Minister’s Questions and back up criticism with solutions. Neil Atherton
