I’m not losing sleep over 15st I slimmed off
Sweeter dreams for brickie Ryan

A BRICKLAYER whose 34st bulk prevented him having a full night’s sleep has told of his new dream life after shedding almost half his weight.
Ryan Money, 34, recalled: “I always had terrible indigestion, then my legs started retaining water and swelling.
“I was never able to sleep for more than an hour at a time, as I needed to get up to go to the toilet.
“Also I’d often stop breathing through the night, which was pretty scary.”
The turning point – which helped him transform his appearance and his health by losing 15st 7lb so far – was his decision to join a Slimming World group in September 2019. But his debut visit
came as a huge shock. “At the first weigh-in I registered 34st 3lb on the scales and couldn’t believe it,” he said.
“I knew I’d got into a bad way but I had no idea I was that heavy. I’d have guessed about 10st lighter, at 24st.”
Ryan was placed on a new diet – and immediately felt the benefits as he lost 16lb in his first week with the group.
“I found I was sleeping much better and had no indigestion,” he said.
“Previously I relied on takeaways. I’d have them once or twice a day. My girlfriend Steph and I once drove to KFC but there was a big queue, so we drove to McDonald’s on the same retail park to get some burgers to eat while we waited.
“Now I’m eating constantly but this time it’s fresh fruit, veg and lean meat.”
He now weighs 18st 10lb and has gone from a clothes size 4XL to XL, with his waist down from 58in to 42in.
Ryan, of Wimborne Minster, Dorset, admits he did not know how to cook and used to buy takeaways for main meals while snacking on crisps and sweets.
“When I did manage to sleep, I would snore loudly and keep everyone else around me awake,” he said.
“Not long before joining Slimming World, I went on a camping trip with pals and it was very awkward as I kept the camp awake with my snoring. I’m sure they knew it was me.”
A new Slimming World poll found nearly two-thirds of 3,100 members questioned had problems sleeping. Losing weight, they reported, had led to sleep improvements.
Ryan, who hopes his success will inspire others, confessed to nerves before his first group meeting.
“But as soon as I got inside, it was fine,” he added. “I heard everyone talk and realised they were in the same boat. I knew I needed the support. I’d have given up if I’d tried this alone at home. Losing weight has changed all of my life.”
