MOYES: WE CAN STILL GO FOURTH WE LOST SIGHT OF GAME PLAN

- BY MIKE WALTERS

DAVID MOYES promised West Ham will fight to the end to “keep the dream alive” of Champions League football next season. The Hammers boss (above) admitted his players were “devastated” to lose a three-goal lead against Arsenal, but he said the air of disappointment was a sign of how far they have progressed since last season’s close shave with relegation.

Moyes’ side are still only two points behind fourth-placed Chelsea and he said: “We are still there and

I want us to keep going for as long as possible to keep the dream alive.

“Although we feel as if we’ve lost two points, we’ve come a long, long way if we are disappointed to draw with Arsenal.

“There was a lot of frustration throughout the game about the decisions, but that’s the way football goes sometimes.

“We played very well for long periods and it wasn’t a great result after going 3-0 up, but we showed we are up there competing with the best teams.

“We were all over them for most of the first half, but Arsenal played well and made it difficult for us in the second half.

“It has been a long time since we finished above Arsenal and we have done our best to make sure they can’t catch us. Now we want more. I’m greedy and they are devastated in the dressing room at not taking three points.” for coming back in the second half, but disappointed with the first half. We didn’t respect the game plan of the coach. This is not what we wanted and we have to think about it.

“Maybe we had the pressure because we knew it was a big game. We have to work a lot to be ready for the end of the season. It’s complicated when we do this kind of game. We need to work a lot to improve.”

Lacazette was not amused to discover that Premier League nit-pickers had taken away his first ‘goal’ – which began Arsenal’s fightback – because his crisp finish had taken a nick off Tomas Soucek and may have been heading off target.

He said: “The first goal is not mine? That’s not nice.”

Arteta was also in unforgiving mood afterwards, saying: “I’m very disappointed because I cannot accept my team to play the way we did in the first half. I expect we play at the level we did afterwards.

“Other teams might have collapsed completely and blamed each other after going 3-0 down, but we did the opposite.

“We can’t go from one level down here to another up there like that. I don’t know if it’s a hangover from Europe. It was more than one player that switched off. We have to right that quick.”
