HOTEL STAY SO SUITE FOR ALBION

- BY NEIL McLEMAN

GRAHAM POTTER revealed how Brighton spent the afternoon in a hotel like they would for an away game before winning only their second home match of the season.

But the Albion boss (below) insisted: “It’s not the hotel or my coat or my scarf that wins you football matches. It is the players.”

Brighton had won only once on their own turf in 18 Premier League fixtures stretching back to June last year.

But the change in preparation produced a change in result, Potter’s inspired side tearing into sorry Newcastle from the start, their front three of Leandro Trossard, Danny Welbeck and Neal Maupay all starring and scoring against a woeful Newcastle.

“We had a thought that our pre-match hanging around at the Amex seems like a long day,” said Potter. “We just reported and spent the afternoon at the hotel and rested up there so we can just turn up an hour-and-a-half before the game with the feeling of, ‘Let’s get in, we know what we are doing. Let’s crack on and do it’. “In that respect, it’s worked. “Is it superstition? No. It is more down to the player’s quality and effort and courage and attitude than our preparation. Although my scarf, I am sure there is a little bit in it!

“But it is nice to win 3-0 and we will do it again, that is for sure.”

Potter said he would celebrate with a “nice glass of wine” with his wife

Rachel after a second consecutive win lifted his team six points clear of Fulham with a game in hand.

But he admitted his thoughts would

“sadly” soon turn to preparing to face

Manchester United on Easter Sunday.

“It’s a bit of a drug unfortunately this football lark but there are worse things to do I guess,” he smiled.
