BY JOHN RICHARDSON WEDNESDAY’S reward for a first win under manager Darren Moore is a fortnight of hard labour – while beaten Barnsley’s players have been told to take it easy.

For Moore, whose relegationthreatened side finally secured three points at the fifth time of asking since he arrived from Doncaster, it is a chance to transfer his winning DNA to a club deep in the mire.

Moore said: “We are going into the international break and we need to work. The two weeks will give us an opportunity to work hard and get some real good sessions in.

“Since I have been at the club I have not had any complaints. As long as the players are willing to improve then I am happy to work with them.”

But Barnsley boss Valerien Ismael wants his side, who had won eight of their previous nine games to gatecrash the play-off scene, to reflect on the football that has given them a glimpse of the Premier League.

Ismael (below left) believes this defeat, through a

Jordan Rhodes double, was a game too far for a side who have gone from relegation candidates to promotion hopefuls.

He said: “The break is a big welcome. It’s been a fantastic run and we have to keep this mindset. Now is recovery time with the family, to reflect on what has happened in the last month and come back with a big motivation. We have placed ourselves in a very good situation.

“We have eight games left and need a good push. The schedule will be easier, because after Easter it’s Saturday, Saturday.

“It’s been a big achievement so far and now we have to finish the job. To be in the playoffs you need 79 points. That means five wins from the last eight games.” Wednesday looked calm throughout, even when a late goal from Carlton Morris (above) offered the Tykes some hope. Josh Windass said of strike partner Rhodes (scoring his second, left): “It’s great going into the break with a win. If we hadn’t have won everyone would be saying we are going to be relegated.”

BARNSLEY: Collins 5, Sollbauer 5 (Sibbick 46, 6), Helik 6, Andersen 6, Brittain 6, Palmer 5 (Halme 46, 6), Mowatt 6, Styles 6, Frieser 5 (Morris 46, 6), Woodrow 5 (Chaplin 67, 6), Dike 6. SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY: Wildsmith 6, Urhoghide 6, Lees 7, Borner 7, Palmer 6, Pelupessy 6, Bannan 7, Reach 6, Paterson 7, Windass 8 (Green 84), Rhodes 7.
