DOM URGES SKY BLUES TO AIM HY-ER

- BY JANINE SELF ANTHONY STEWART (WYCOMBE)

DOMINIC HYAM has a message for his shot-shy Coventry teammates – the defenders are right behind you.

Hyam reckons an injection of self-belief is required to release the pressure on Mark Robins’s side when it comes to finishing.

The Sky Blues squandered a handful of goal-scoring chances against fellow strugglers Wycombe and could not cash in on other results at the foot of the Championship table.

Hyam (above) said: “I don’t think we believed enough we were going to score and that is something we need to take into the next game.

“We do our job at the back but we can’t make it ‘us versus them’ with the strikers. They are going to miss chances and we are going to make mistakes, so we are all in it together.

“We’ve just got to be positive and keep the chances coming and be more ruthless. We can only control what we do.”

Coventry are four points clear of the drop zone and leapfrogged landlords Birmingham to move up into 20th.

Manager Robins said: “We’ve got to be looking ahead rather than behind – looking at the Forests and the Derbys. We’ve got to try and catch them rather than looking behind us.”

Both these sides were promoted last season and no one would be surprised if they slid back into League One.

But Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth said: “Our plan is to stay in this league or make sure we come straight back.”
