Former team-mate Kyle backs Super League’s efforts to help Masoe

KYLE AMOR and Mose Masoe joined St Helens at the same time and packed down alongside each other in a victorious Grand Final.
So this weekend’s Super League dedication to Masoe and his young family resonates strongly with prop Amor as the sport rallies round the Samoan international. Amor can recall exactly how he felt when he heard news of Masoe’s devastating, lifechanging spinal injury playing for Hull KR against Wakefield last year.
Now he hopes the rugby league community can come together over Easter and help secure his former team-mate’s financial future.
Amor said: “I remember when we heard that things were a lot more serious than we first thought. When you look back at the incident it looked so innocuous, and he was so, so unlucky.
“It was a reminder to us all about the sport that we play.
“You think about yourself
and how you would deal with it, and I couldn’t have dealt with it as well as he has. It’s easy to see the little videos of his rehab and think everything’s okay – but that’s five minutes of his day, and he has another 23 hours and 55 minutes where all the most difficult challenges are.
“I saw his interview with Sky the other week and it was a tough watch and not nice to see at all. For him to talk about other people in difficult situations shows what kind of bloke he is.”
Amor has fond memories of playing alongside the 31-year-old, with the pair the starting props in Saints’
2014 Old Trafford triumph. Masoe will be present as his two Super League clubs meet tonight, with Robins forward Korbin Sims wearing his name and number on the back of his shirt.
Super League has asked fans to buy virtual tickets for any of this weekend’s games, with the money raised going towards the new Mose Masoe Foundation.
Amor added: “Mose’s got the rest of his life to lead and still has to provide for and care for his family and kids.
“It’s right that the sport provides as much financial comfort as it can for him, because it would be awful if he was chewed up, spat out and forgotten about. He’s somebody that has given the game brilliant service and suffered an horrific, freak accident while playing.
“His wife is his full-time carer now and can’t work any more, and that’s the scary reality for them.”
