WHAT: Tumblestone Hollow adventure park, Oxfordshire. Tickets from £6.50 (£8.50 peak) for adults and older children, younger children from £4.50 (£6.50 peak). Pre-booking required. stonor.com

WHERE: In the grounds of Stonor Park, one of Britain’s oldest inhabited stately homes, just north of Henley-on-Thames. EXPERIENCE: Driving past the Stonor family’s 850-year-old house and 13th century chapel to find a spot in the car park was a breeze. And, joy of joys, the new adventure park was right opposite, so no trudging about.

After checking in at the visitor centre and zapping the test and trace app, we entered the sprawling maze of elevated wooden walkways between tree houses, look-out points, slides, tubes, climbing walls and scrambling nets.

There’s also a long zip-wire, as well as smaller swings, slides and a sandpit for little ones. A ring of large boulders recreate

Stonor’s original ancient stone circle, and there’s a beautiful children’s book, The Legend of Tumblestone Hollow, you can buy from the visitor centre, based around the magical characters in the playground.

For picnicking guests, a roomy open-sided tent has been erected with tables inside, and there are plenty of benches. We bought a tray of churros with chocolate dip from a pop-up food stall and sat on the grass.

Stonor Park is criss-crossed with walking and cycling routes around its hills and valleys too. VERDICT: A great day out for climbing, whizzing and hiding and seeking in stunning surroundings. 9/10
