Adele thrills fans with Easy On Me

ADELE says that her new music is inspired by life changes she had been “putting off for years”.

The singer, 33, yesterday released her first song in six years, Easy On Me, which Radio 2 DJ Jo Whiley describes as “flawless” in her review (right).

A new album, called 30, will follow on November 19.

Tens of millions of fans watched the powerful, moviestyle video for the haunting Easy On Me in the first few hours of its release on YouTube.

Shot in Quebec, Canada, last month, the video starts in black-and-white in the same house she entered six years ago in her Hello video, and turns colour as the London-born star leaves the painful past behind.

The ballad’s lyrics seem to ask for forgiveness from her ex-husband Simon Konecki – and possibly from her eightyear-old son Angelo too.

She appears to reference the 2019 breakdown of their marriage and why they could not stay together.

She sings: “There ain’t no room for things to change. When we are both so deeply stuck in our ways, you can’t deny how hard I’ve tried.

“I changed who I was to put you both first but now I give up... Go easy on me, baby.”

EXHAUSTING

Adele and charity boss Simon met and began dating in 2011 when she was 23.

In a round of radio interviews, Adele said that Easy On Me was the first song she wrote for the 30 album, when the split was seemingly still raw.

She hinted that the divorce, in March this year, should have happened earlier, saying: “It was exhausting and it was really hard work. But the more and more you put it off, the worse and worse it gets.”

The 15-times Grammy winner also said she had lost “the appreciation of what a gift it is” to make music.

She added: “I feel like I got a bit frightened of it for a while.”

And she said of the album: “It was bloody hard work but I’m really proud of it.”

Paul, 39, said that she now hopes to put together “a big, proper tour again”, if the pandemic allows.

She added: “I wouldn’t do it quite as long as I did it last time but I would love to do that.”
