MARSHALL: I’LL BREAK SHIELDS IN TWO MINUTES

-

SAVANNAH MARSHALL has warned Claressa Shields she will destroy her in two minutes when they finally meet again.

Shields watched Marshall’s two-round dismantling of the previously-unbeaten Lolita Muzeya in Newcastle to retain her women’s WBO middleweight crown and the pair are on course to collide next year.

The self-proclaimed GWOAT –

Greatest Woman Of All Time – joined Marshall in a live interview on Sky Sports, saying: “Congrats! See you next year, girlie. Show you what a real fighter and real champion fights like.”

The unbeaten Marshall, who handed Shields her only defeat on her way to winning the 2012 world amateur championship, hit back, saying: “Claressa couldn’t last two minutes with me, never mind two rounds.” The two rivals are due to appear on the same BOXXER show in December to tee up a huge 2022 showdown.

The Peter Fury-trained Marshall weathered Muzeya’s early storm to stop the Zambian in the second round in a devastating display of her power.

Marshall said: “I knew she would come and when I went back to the corner after the first round, Peter said ‘just weather the storm, she’ll die after a couple of rounds’ and she only lasted one more. He said just ‘tuck up, catch her shots and just pick your own’, and he was right.

“As soon as I went out I was catching her and put her on the back foot. But fair play to her, she came at me like a bat out of hell.”

Marshall (right) was overcome by her reception in her native north east, saying: “I’m a woman in a man’s sport. To have this amount of support is amazing.”
