THE Queen is “knackered” after a constant stream of public engagements and social events, sources close to the monarch say.

The 95-year-old is recovering after cancelling a trip to Northern Ireland and spending the night having tests in hospital on Wednesday.

A source told The Sunday Times: “She is fine, but she needs the rest, she is saving her energy for COP [COP26].”

They added she “remains in good spirits” but that “she is knackered”.

Her Majesty is still expected to lead the family turnout at the climate summit in Glasgow next month.

According to Buckingham Palace, she has held 13 audiences, attended seven major events and travelled almost

900 miles since October 1.

In addition, every day she still reads government papers and has a long list of private meetings.

The Queen is reportedly spending her downtime watching TV with Mabel Anderson, 95, her children’s nanny.

A source says: “The Queen rings her up sometimes and Mabel goes and watches television with her. They are very cosy.”

Buckingham Palace are believed to be working hard to reduce the Queen’s in the coming months with Sir Edward Young, the Queen’s private secretary facing calls to “be ruthless” and purge her diary of functions not central to her role as head of state.

Officials are understood to be drawing up a “core” list of key events that the Queen will prioritise in the next 12 months, including those marking her Platinum Jubilee in June 2022. Plans are already in place for future engagements with the Queen expected to be accompanied by one of her children or grandchildren when she appears in public in case of any lastworkload minute health scares. This month, Prince Edward, Princess Anne and Prince Charles have all joined her on visits. Royal historian Hugo Vickers said: “The problem is that the Queen does not want to disappoint people. “She can say no to people, but by and large she doesn’t. What you’ve got to do is pace her.”
