FALLON’S RETURN AS OUR QUEEN AT THE PALACE

- BY MIKE WALTERS

QUEEN of the Palace Fallon Sherrock can not wait to harness the fancy dress corps’ adulation again after booking her return ticket to the PDC World Championship.

Sherrock made history two years ago by beating Ted Evetts and Mensur Suljovic at Alexandra Palace – the first woman ever to defeat male opposition at the tournament.

The Bletchley trailblazer shot to global stardom, and was celebrated as a “game-changer” by tennis royalty Billie Jean King.

Sherrock, who ran former world No.1 Michael van Gerwen close in last month’s Nordic Darts Masters final, clinched her place back at Ally Pally by winning two Women’s Series events in Barnsley.

And she reached the final in a third, won by four-times women’s world champion Lisa Ashton, who has also qualified for the William Hill World Championship starting on December 15. “It’s going to be a great experience to go back there, especially now that crowds are allowed back in,” said Sherrock, 27 (right).

“Last year, watching on TV, it felt a bit flat without the fans so I’m happy that I get to go back with crowds.

“Last year, I missed out on qualifying by just two legs. Looking back now, I put too much pressure on myself and, with everyone’s expectations, I was reading too much into everything.

“This year, I have not been over-thinking it, I am not taking any notice of what the world is saying and I am enjoying my darts.”

Sherrock twice averaged 100-plus on the way to her first win in the weekend’s block of six women’s tournaments where two Ally Pally places were up for grabs.

She added: “I’m really happy with how I’m playing.”
