Tories dither as disaster looms

-

AS usual members of this Government are burying their heads in the sand, hoping the virus will just go away.

Don’t infection rates rising alarmingly along with the death toll – while the booster jab rollout isn’t going as quickly as they expected – tell them anything?

How can Health Secretary Sajid Javid say they don’t believe the pressure on the NHS is unsustainable at this time, despite all the warnings from doctors, scientists and experts? What planet is this Government on?

The way things are going now, with the number of cases predicted to increase to 100,000 per day, it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if Johnson is forced to cancel another Christmas.

David King, Peterborough

Being one of those eligible for a Covid booster jab, I was happy to take up the offer and had mine last week. This gives me confidence I’m doing my bit to try to stop the spread of the virus which is rampant at the moment. My concern is the Government, supposed to be responsible for our welfare is incompetent, negligent and intransigent in their handling of the pandemic. Someone needs to get a grip of the situation, but who can we rely on?

Mal Cox, Rotherham

Once again the stable door is left open and the horse is ready to bolt. This Government has not learned from their past mistakes which ended up costing tens of thousands of

lives. Masks, social distancing and vaccination passports are a small price to pay to save lives.

Winter is coming and the time to act is now before our NHS is completely overwhelmed.

Roger Grant Thurnscoe, South Yorks

As the Tories dither again, it seems we could be in for a repeat of last year’s winter catastrophe.

The PM’s inaction over bringing in Plan B as new cases rocket could lead to many more deaths.

Do the Tories want this on their conscience? We don’t want another Christmas lockdown due to their mishandling of the crisis.

Dave Mellor, Warrington

Why do our politicians appear to think they know better than the scientific advisors?

Once again they are being urged to act now to prevent the Covid situation getting any worse.

And once again they think that they know better and decide to

delay the inevitable. It’s just the same as before, always a couple of weeks too late.

Mal Arnold, Littlestone, Kent

After the two years we have endured you would think the Government might have learned a thing or two, but instead they decide to leave the stable door open for the stampeding horse.

Compulsory mask-wearing and social distancing are hardly an erosion of civil liberties.

It beggars belief that they are still making pandemic policies with their fingers crossed.

John Sedgwick, Tamworth, Staffs

The Government is once again playing with the lives of the most vulnerable who will bear the brunt of any future coronavirus waves.

It’s about time they started behaving in a more appropriate manner and took note of what the experts are telling them. Margaret McAlister Rotherham
