My man of mystery

- Britbox

RIPPER Street actress MyAnna Buring stars opposite Iceland’s Gisli Orn Gardarsson in this real-time romantic comedy, charting the highs and lows of a blind date in Oslo.

Similar to hit BBC drama Keeping Faith, which was filmed in both English and Welsh, a Swedishlanguage version of the show has already been made, with Buring playing the same character.

This time around, the scenes are all in English and we meet Elizabeth, a waitress, who has dragged herself to the bar without high hopes.

She’s anxious after a difficult previous relationship with a controlling ex, and the thought of leaping into something new isn’t appealing.

Her concerned friend Denise has set her up with Jonas, a weirdly unknowable bloke, who manages to evade the traditional pre-date Facebook search.

He plays his cards close to his chest and stays off social media, but insists he’s the most honest man you’ll ever meet.

We sit with them through every toe-curling moment – the awkward looks as they wait for the drinks to be poured, the silences as they search for small talk and the jokes that just don’t land.

But there’s something simmering between them, and Elizabeth starts to thaw to the possibility of romance.

Eventually, she agrees to go to another place for dinner, and everything seems to be going in the right direction.

But Jonas is hiding something – his phone keeps ringing and he’s texting someone important.

Is there a wife or girlfriend waiting for him at home?

Or is there another secret for Elizabeth to discover?
