INTER WILL PUT ‘BANNED’ STAR ERIKSEN UP FOR SALE
CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN has been banned from playing in Italy and will have to quit Inter Milan to resume his career.
The former Tottenham playmaker suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s opening game of Euro 2020 against Finland in June, which saw medics bring him back to life with CPR and the use of a defibrillator.
After being admitted to hospital, Eriksen, 29, underwent surgery to have an implantable cardioverter defibrillator device (ICD) implanted.
Though it was necessary for Eriksen (above) to have the ICD implanted, the Italian Football Federation’s technical scientific committee have previously made it clear that it would prevent him from playing.
And with no sign that the ICD is ready to be removed, Inter have revealed they are now open to allowing Eriksen to depart and continue his career in another country following his heart problem.
In a statement, the Serie A side said: “Although the current conditions of the player don’t meet the requirements of achieving sporting fitness in Italy, the same could instead be achieved in other countries where the player could resume competitive activity.”
Inter went on to confirm that they could consider to “proceed with the sale of the player to a foreign team where the current conditions don’t exclude the possibility of obtaining eligibility”.
Eriksen, who joined Inter for £16.9million in January 2020, is likely to leave for a cut-price fee.
Significantly, Ajax’s Daley Blind was also fitted with a defibrillator after being diagnosed with heart muscle inflammation, but has continued playing for the Eredivisie champions, as well as internationally for Holland.
