DEFIANT FARKE INSISTS: I DON’T DOUBT MYSELF

- BY JON WEST

DANIEL FARKE fully believes his Norwich strugglers will prove they are good enough for the top flight.

The Canaries host Leeds having been humiliated 7-0 at Chelsea last week. That left the relegation favourites rock bottom with just two points from their first nine games.

Farke could do nothing to prevent a barrage of criticism being hurled at him and his players, who finished at the foot of the league two seasons ago.

The German (below) brought in fresh faces in the hope it would be a different story second time around, but so far they too have failed to shine.

Sporting director Stuart Webber gave Farke a public vote of confidence earlier in the week but the Norwich boss insisted he didn’t need it. He said: “Just because we lose games against Chelsea doesn’t mean I start to doubt what we are doing. I’m not doubting myself and I don’t need any backing.

“I’m fully convinced of what we are doing. I can guarantee we will work our socks off. I won’t accept our new signings are not good enough for this level either – wait until 38 games are finished.

“They will prove they are, there is so much fight still within this group. Even if there is a poor result against Leeds, no one will see this Norwich side give up.” After the Chelsea shambles, Farke pointed out Southampton had come through two separate 9-0 drubbings without losing faith. And he added: “I didn’t want to keep the negativity out. “When you feel pain, you want to make sure you don’t feel it again. We need a reaction, but it is important not to overinterpret a loss against one of the best sides in the world.”
