Film star Sharon praises acts of selflessness
isn’t it, really? We celebrities, we think we’re really important and actually we aren’t, are we? I haven’t been in a few years and it’s lovely to be back.” Phillip Schofield said the Pride of Britain Awards give the nation a much-needed dose of positivity. Phillip, whose This Morning co-host Holly Willoughby was also in attendance, said: “There’s so much negativity in the world. But when you look at a night like this, it’s incredible. There are still incredible people doing amazing things.” Rochelle Humes believes Pride of Britain outshines all other award events. Ex-The Saturdays star Rochelle said: “It’s what we should be doing more of: celebrating our true heroes. It’s a cliche and I say it every year, it’s without a shadow of a doubt the best night of the year.”
Comic Katherine Ryan, team captain on 8 Out of 10 Cats, was uncharacteristically serious on the red carpet when she said: “It’s so important to recognise sacrifices to make this country great.”
Dame Joan Collins and Paralympian Dame Sarah Storey teamed up to present former Royal Marine and triple amputee
Mark Ormrod, 38, with the Fundraiser of the Year award. He completed amazing feats of endurance to raise over £450,000 for veterans’ charity REORG.
Dame Joan said: “First of all, how he manages to have a full and happy life, I hope, with what he has to deal with is amazing.”
Dame Sarah added: “What Mark has achieved is remarkable. I can see the glint of his eye and he says he’s got a crazy coach, but I can’t imagine what that would be like. I feel very fortunate people like Mark serve and look after us. He is the Pride of Britain.” julie.mccaffrey@mirror.co.uk @juliemccaffrey
