‘SWANS CAN BID FOR TOP UNDER RUSS’

- STEFFAN THOMAS

JAKE BIDWELL insists Swansea will go from strength to strength after finally getting to grips with Russell Martin’s style of play.

The Welsh side eased to victory with goals from Bidwell, Joel Piroe and Olivier Ntcham.

Martin was appointed at the 11th hour after Steve Cooper left the club in the summer, but Bidwell (after scoring his goal, above) says Swansea are on the up.

He said: “We didn’t get pre-season with the manager. Pre-season was going on for us as the games were going on.

“Every manager you work under has different styles and different ideas. It’s up to us as players to take that on and carry it out to the best of our ability.

“I’m just trying to do what the manager is asking of me and help the team in the system. You can see we are building from week to week, getting better and better, and the results are coming now.

“We’ll just keep doing that and see where that takes us.”

Swansea scored after just 77 seconds. Ryan Bennett’s long ball found Ethan Laird who raced up the touchline. And the defender whipped a cross into the path of Bidwell who tapped it into the net.

Piroe’s powerful shot from the edge of the box beat Peterborough keeper David Cornell to put the Swans 2-0 up.

And it became three goals in first-half stoppage time when Ntcham drilled his low drive past the Posh defence.

Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson was left bitterly disappointed with how his side had performed.

He groaned: “It was an horrendous start from us and then we just had to try and stay in the game.

“It was a long afternoon. We prepared all week to play a very good team on the ball, but we were 2-0 down after 13 minutes.

“We didn’t touch the ball before we conceded and it couldn’t have been an easier goal.”
