ROBERT LEWANDOWSKI marked his 100th Champions League appearance with a trademark hat-trick as Bayern Munich crushed Benfica 5-2.
The German giants cruised out of Group E with maximum points thanks to a comprehensive win over the Portuguese side in the Allianz Arena.
Lewandowksi (above, with Leroy Sane) got the ball rolling with a closerange header in the 26th minute.
The Polish legend then turned provider, feeding Serge Gnabry who produced a cool finish from six yards.
Benfica became the first side to score against Bayern in this season’s Champions League, Brazilian Morato’s header capping a well-worked freekick routine.
Lewandowski fluffed the chance to restore Bayern’s two-goal cushion before the break when his poor penalty was easily saved by Odysseas Vlachodimos.
But Bayern stretched their lead early in the second half thanks to Sane’s sweet volley.
Lewandowski grabbed his second with a cool chip before Darwin Nunez pulled another one back for Benfica.
But Lewandowski was not finished as he made it 81 Champions League goals with his 28th career hat-trick.
Bayern’s victory was good news for Barcelona. Playing their first Champions League game under Sergi Barjuan since the sacking of Ronald Koeman, they kept their hopes of progressing alive with a 1-0 win over Dynamo Kiev in the Ukraine.
Ansu Fati (above) finally made the breakthrough in the 70th minute, smashing home from inside the box.
VfL Wolfsburg stunned Champions League Group G leaders Red Bull Salzburg 2-1 to rekindle their hopes of a top-two finish and a spot in the knockout stage.
Ridle Baku opened the scoring for the Wolves, slotting in at the far post before Salzburg drew level when Maximilian Woeber curled in a left-foot free-kick.
But the Germans grabbed the winner after the break, Lukas Nmecha firing home to seal their first win in the group.
Lille also registered their first win in the competition this season, coming from behind to beat Sevilla 2-1 in Spain to move second in Group G.
