MOYES: WE DESERVE TO BE UP THERE

- BY NICK SZCZEPANIK

DAVID MOYES believes his players deserve to be rubbing shoulders with the Premier League elite. And the West Ham boss insisted ahead of tomorrow’s top-four visit of Liverpool that there is no sense of ‘imposter syndrome’ at the London Stadium – even though the club narrowly missed relegation two seasons ago. “I believe as a manager the players are not imposters. think they right

I are in the position,” Moyes said.

“We have now got several international players, who are playing for Spain, France, England, boys from the Czech Republic, boys playing for some of the African nations. It’s incredible the change. “The boys are here on their quality and what they bring to the club and the team and they have been really, really good.”

The Hammers will go above the unbeaten Reds if they win, but Moyes is looking for the right balance of respect and confidence. “We will play against a top team that will make it really difficult for us,” he said. “But we have to go into it with a level of belief that we can challenge and play against them. “There will be periods of the game where you have to suffer because you cannot get the ball because they are so good with it. We have to find a way of making sure that we get enough of it to cause Liverpool problems as well.

“I see this as a good challenge for the players to show what they can do against a top team.” Thursday’s 2-2 draw against Genk in Belgium ensured that his team qualified for the Europa League knockout stage, but Moyes knows they have achieved nothing yet.

“Before the draw was made you would have said what a great achievement, West Ham getting through to the latter stages,” he said. “Now we want to win it and yes, I want to finish as high up the Premier League as I can.

“And this will be the biggest challenge because last year finishing sixth was an incredible achievement. “That would be terrific.”
