ARLENE Phillips will rule the castle in I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! according to pal Anton Du Beke.

The Strictly star said his former colleague will be up for the toughest challenges – and could even be crowned this year’s winner.

At 78, choreographer Arlene is the oldest ever contestant on the ITV reality show, which will be based in a Welsh castle for the second year running instead of the Australian jungle because of Covid restrictions.

Anton said: “Good luck to her, she’s brilliant. She’ll be fabulous.”

Asked if she could be crowned Queen of the Castle, Anton, who is due to play Buttons in panto Cinderella in Richmond, South

West London, said: “Potentially she could – I’ll be supporting her, for sure. She’s terrific.”

When it comes to the show’s famously gruesome challenges, Anton reckons Arlene, who was a judge on Strictly until 2008, will also be up to the task. “She’s a game girl,” he said. “She should be fine.” Arlene will join stars including footballer David Ginola, Emmerdale actor Danny Miller and TV host Richard Madeley on I’m A Celeb, which returns to our screens on Sunday,

November 21. Others contestants include EastEnder Adam Woodyatt, BBC Breakfast’s Louise Minchin, Coronation Street’s Simon Gregson, Paralympian Kadeena Cox, Olympic diver Matty Lee, singer Frankie Bridge, BBC Radio 1Xtra star Snoochie Shy and music producer Naughty Boy.

The stars are currently going through two weeks of quarantine in Wales, prior to entering the castle.

Anton’s new novel, We’ll Meet Again (published by Zaffre), is out now in hardback, eBook and audio, priced at £18.99.
