The inaugural Premier League season ends on a high as the last three games are won and Joe Royle (above) and Oldham avoid the drop on goal difference.
1994
Mark Hughes’ last-minute Manchester United goal (below) denies an FA Cup Final spot – and relegation follows on final day. 1997
A return to the third tier for the first time in 23 seasons is confirmed.
2001
Chris Moore buys the club and vows to take the Latics back to the Prem in five years. 2003
Debt leads to a players’ fire-sale and admin before US-based trio Simon Blitz, Simon Corney and Danny Gazal take control. 2009
Joe Royle, hero boss of the Prem, is back as caretaker but not permanently. Plans for a new £20million stadium are unveiled. 2010
Blitz and Gazal pull out, leaving Corney as the majority shareholder.
2015
Plans to sign Ched Evans, a convicted rapist at the time, end due to a 60,000-signature protest petition. A sponsor quits as well. 2017
Boundary Park is raided by HMRC following a series of winding-up orders for non-payment of tax bills.
2018
Moroccan agent Abdallah Lemsagam agrees to take 97 percent of the shares from Corney. Failure to win any of the last eight games ends a 21-year stint in the third tier. 2019
Paul Scholes (below) takes over as manager but quits after 31 days citing interference from Lemsagam.
2020
Blitz tries to force administration because of money owed to his company – which still owns the ground.
2021
Harry Kewell is sacked as boss and Keith Curle is in, but a transfer embargo, Covidrelated illnesses and fan protests follow.
