GAL FORCE WARNING!

Five-year-old set to turn on the Power

-

THE Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham is the Holy Grail for today’s contenders and it should pay to put your faith in Galahad.

Unexposed five-year-old GALAHAD QUEST (2.15) looks to have a great profile for this hugely-competitive contest. He jumped like an old hand when winning his third chase start at Haydock last season and he looked like he would improve a lot for his promising return to action.

Again his jumping was slick and he travelled like a good horse before fading into third in the closing stages of that Wetherby race. Have 2pts each-way at 11-1 with several bookies paying out on six places.

ANOTHER VENTURE (1.05) has a great record when returning from a break so first time out might well be the time to catch him.

He’s only a pound higher in the weights than when successful on his comeback run at Ludlow last season and he has since left Kim Bailey to join Nicky Henderson.

It’s interesting that the visor he has worn during the last couple of seasons has been left off as he often responds well to having his headgear changed around.

Have 1pt each-way at 16-1.

Fergal O’Brien remains a trainer in top form and his six-year-old gelding ONAGATHERINGSTORM (2.50) looked likely to appreciate his first run of the season behind Bardenstown Lad at Cheltenham last month.

That was a novices’ hurdle and he’s significantly better off at the weights with the runner-up of that contest, Dragon Bones, switched to this staying handicap. His wins in the spring came on decent ground and he is a horse with plenty of potential. Have 1pt each-way at 8-1.

There’s a good all-weather card at Lingfield, where MISTY GREY (3.05) looks the best bet.

He was a useful juvenile for Mark Johnston and he won his first three starts after switching to Tom Dascombe last winter.

His third behind Exalted Angel over today’s course and distance in February was an excellent effort as he came from further back than the horses that finished in front of him. 8-1.

Have 1pt each-way at
