Christmas THINGS TO DO THIS

-

My local Christmas market has opened in Winchester this weekend, which means it’s time to get stuck into the gluhwein to take the edge off the shopping.

These are the top 10 Christmas markets from leaseelectriccar.co.uk…

1

EDINBURGH – One of the most popular markets in the UK, it has 60 stalls, a ferris wheel, ice rink, and double carousel (until January 4). 2 BIRMINGHAM – The largest authentic German market outside of Deutschland boasts Bavarian cuisine and hand-crafted gifts (until December 23). 3 WINCHESTER – 112 wooden chalets line the beautiful grounds of Winchester Cathedral. One of the best in Europe, it also has an ice rink (until December 22).

4

NOTTINGHAM – With a 32m high observation wheel, the Winter Wonderland returns with 40 Bavarian stalls, apres-ski bar and fair rides (until December 31). 5

MANCHESTER Hosted all around the city, its festive food stalls will offer Spanish, Mexican, Dutch and Greek as well as British classics (until December 22).

6

LONDON The Winter Wonderland is back at Hyde Park and bigger than ever with everything from ice-sculpting classes to rollercoasters (until January 3). 7

CHESTER Opposite the charming cathedral, the magical market brings the best local businesses together (until December 22).

8

YORK St Nicholas Fair will fill the air with roasted chestnuts and mulled wine among its chalets and vintage carousel (until December 23).

9

NEWCASTLE With a local-trader focus, visitors can enjoy local beer or join in carol singing (December 2-24).

10

BELFAST Back at the City Hall and filled with sweet treats, arts and crafts, and the all-important Santa’s Grotto. Covid status proof needed at weekends (until December 23).
