Those anti-vaxxers simply can’t prove their pint

- PAUL ROUTLEDGE

If it’s late November, it must be family Christmas reunion time in Haworth, capital of Bronteland.

Our get-together was cancelled last year because of the pandemic, but daughter No1 and husband Ben made it.

An unmissable joy is the B3 bus over the hills to Hebden Bridge, the centre of hippy, alternative Yorkshire. And floods.

This town is a poster for climate change. A humble tributary of the Calder has a bad habit of overflowing into the streets.

And what a place to walk straight into England’s vaxx wars!

The anti-vaxxers came with heavy yellow plastic placards, snap-tied to the railings at the busiest road junction.

“After taking experimental vaccine – 1,517 deaths” yelled one, oblivious to the scientific fact that the vaccines were rigorously tested before going into anyone’s arms.

There is no evidence of such fatalities, only of the thousands who are dying because they refuse the jab.

“Why vaccinate teens when dying of virus is rare?” They bellowed. Er, because they are carriers to vulnerable family members, and the public.

There was a lot of pointing and some shouting, and motorists honking for the protesters. It wasn’t the Rotterdam riots, but it felt like violence bubbled just beneath the surface.

A pub window notice in Bridge Street said: “We do not discriminate. Race, gender, age, disability, vaccinated or unvaccinated, everyone equal here and everyone welcome.”

But we are not all equal. Millions have decided they are above medical science, and free to put the rest of us at risk.

You won’t catch me in the No-Jab Arms.
