NOW WES BANKS ON NET GAINS

- BY ROSS HEPPENSTALL

WES FODERINGHAM wants to be Sheffield United’s safe pair of hands as they bid to clamber into the play-off picture.

The former Rangers goalkeeper, 30, made his first appearance since September after regular No.1 Robin Olsen was sidelined through injury.

Foderingham impressed against Coventry and said: “Chances are definitely limited in the goalkeeping position and everyone has a different mentality.

“It’s difficult to get into a rhythm when you’re not playing – you come in for one game and then you’re out for a couple of months, then you’re back in.

“But hopefully I have a chance to do that now because I think the manager can see my qualities.

“Obviously Robin is injured at the moment so I’ve got the job.

“If the manager wants to pick me after this game then it’s his call but all I can do is play well when I get the chance.

“I feel I’ve done that every time I’ve stepped onto the pitch.”

Slavisa Jokanovic’s Blades did not have a shot on target until the 82nd minute and Foderingham added: “In recent games we’ve been a bit leaky at the back so to get a clean sheet was definitely a positive.

“Without that cutting edge in front of goal we’re disappointed not to come away with three points.

“We just need to be a little bit more clinical going forward and I think we’ll be alright.”

Coventry boss Mark Robins (above) felt Callum O’Hare was unlucky to be booked for simulation after taking a tumble in the penalty area under a Ben Davies challenge.

The Sky Blues lie fifth and Robins said: “We were better in the first half and then ran out of legs in the second – but we could have nicked it.”
