I’ve trained myself not to leave the house without my stainless steel drinking bottle, so I’m doing my bit never to buy another plastic bottle again. I try to only buy cans and glass bottles – so luckily wine and gin are as green as you can get.

My next purge on plastics is reusing all my cleaning product containers at home, using soluble concentrat­ed detergents which can be mixed with tap water.

My friend Alison swears by her bag of soap nuts (£6.99 for 100 washes, Ecozonedir­ect. com), and I haven’t noticed her being any smellier than usual.

However, I have quite a lot of muddy games kit to wash, so I still use soap powder but buy it in old-fashioned cardboard boxes.

Now all I need to do is get rid of The Dark Lord (my least eco-friendly product), and I’m pretty much carbon neutral…
