POTTER’S TRUST IN TROSSARD

- BY

CHRIS HATHERALL GRAHAM POTTER is backing Leandro Trossard to continue his scoring streak against Manchester United. Trossard has suddenly hit top form, scoring four times in the last six games, including in Brighton’s victories over Wolves, Tottenham and Arsenal. That makes it seven for the season, his best total since arriving from Genk in 2019. And Potter has noticed a big change in the Belgium forward’s confidence. “Last year he probably hit the post more than anyone in the Premier League,” said the Albion boss (top).

“It was just that little bit of luck he needed because we always thought the quality was there. We see it every day in training. So, there was never a doubt for me. “He’s carried on working hard, he’s tried to do his best for the team and it’s working.” Potter reckons the Eureka moment for the 27-year-old (above) was a stunning goal in last month’s 2-1 win at Arsenal. He said: “It’s like anything, once he scores he gets a bit more belief in himself. The Arsenal goal was a big goal for him. All of a sudden it was a weight off his shoulders.

“We’re delighted with him. That’s seven goals now, which is good.”

Potter’s only dilemma is whether to play the Belgian wide or up front – where Brighton have been crying out for a regular scorer. “It’s an interesting one,” said Potter. “He’s always spoken about playing through the centre, but ironically he has scored his goals from wide areas. So, that’s something for us to consider.” Midfielder Enock Mwepu is out for the remainder of the season with groin trouble.
