WHAT: The Magical Forest in Legoland’s Mythica section adds a sense of creative wonderment to an already memorable experience at the Windsor theme park.

The new attraction comes with some of the most advanced and lifelike models while bringing the marvels of virtual reality to the park. Theme park entry starts at £32 per person. legoland.co.uk WHERE: The Mythica area is in the north-east corner next to the hotels and bars. The park is on the B3022 Windsor/Ascot Road two miles from Windsor town centre. EXPERIENCE: The theme of the new section is mythical creatures that are hybrids of ones we know – such as flying lions and elephants with butterfly wings. They stalk the Magical Forest brought to life by the wonders of virtual reality.

These animals are coloured in a way to appeal to girls as well as boys, reflecting Legoland’s improved inclusivity over the past decade with the popular rise of the Lego Friends range.

My five-year-old experienced her first real stab at a rollercoaster with the Fire & Ice Freefall ride, producing a wide-eyed look of mild fear fused with cautious excitement. “My tummy feels funny,” she said before realising “it’s scary and fun at the same time.” But if she thought that was a transformative experience, she clearly wasn’t ready for Flight of the Sky Lion, the country’s first flying theatre ride.

Both my daughters were convinced we were flying and I’ve got to say I wasn’t far off either.

The rest of the day was spent making memories on Legoland’s must-dos such as Pirate Falls or the Dragon. There was virtually nothing my four-year-old couldn’t do based on height.

VERDICT: Legoland remains arguably the country’s prime destination for children of a certain age, but it still feels like paradise for this Lego fan approaching 30 too. 10/10
