Celebrations fit for our Queen
NOBODY can say we don’t know how to enjoy ourselves. Give us Brits an excuse and off we go, and what better excuse than the Queen celebrating 70 years as our monarch? This is one record that will be hard to beat.
There were parties up and down the country in pubs and homes, with streets lined with bunting and Union Jack flags. The festivities have given us something to feel good about at long last.
And it was lovely to see Her Majesty at 96 still able to enjoy the celebrations with two balcony appearances with her family.
Seeing so many smiling faces no doubt brought her much joy.
The BBC once again excelled in its superb coverage and must be congratulated. Let’s hope this feel-good factor carries on for some time to come.

When it comes to staging major events, no one can do it with the style and quality of Great Britain. Although not well enough to attend the Trooping of the Colour or Platinum Jubilee Service at St Paul’s Cathedral, the Queen must have been glued to her TV set and felt proud of the way the events were staged. They went off faultlessly. During the thanksgiving service, the contributions of the clergy and other speakers were perfect, and how Her Majesty must have smiled at the reference to her love of horses and racing. And it was also nice Prince Harry and Meghan were welcomed back into the fold – by now they must realise just what they’re missing.

■ The four days of events put on for our gracious Queen were spectacular. Nowhere else in the world could you see such fantastic displays of pageantry.
The colours, the flags and the crowds were amazing and even though the Queen didn’t attend the Trooping of the Colour or the thanksgiving service at St Paul’s, Prince Charles did a fantastic job standing in for her.
Her Majesty has reigned for 70 years – Queen Victoria is the only other monarch to come close, at almost 64 years – and last weekend was a one-off.
She has been, and continues to be, a wonderful Queen.

■ What an inspiration Her Majesty has been for 70 years. She has represented the United Kingdom all over the world with dignity and taught anyone willing to watch and listen, how to be a great leader.
Her commitment, to the UK and the whole Commonwealth, is plain to see. The whole weekend of celebrations made me feel proud, as does the Queen.
David Honeybell Heckmondwike, West Yorks
■ Joe Fitzgerald’s letter outraged me (Your Voice, June 3). To say our Queen lives a life of luxury might be true, but she also has sacrificed much. Imagine what it must be like to have to attend engagements whether you feel like it or not?
What a hectic life she has had to lead just to please everyone.

■ As a loyal fan of the Queen, I wonder why we didn’t hear In A Golden Coach, which was sung at the coronation, during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations? I’m sure other people love it too. Maureen Wheeler Romford, East London
■ We have a country on its knees, the NHS in crisis, mental health services cut to the bone, people not able to eat a proper meal, yet millions was spent on the Jubilee.
It’s an insult and disgrace. We have our priorities very wrong. Linda Martin, Witham, Essex
