Foakes: We’ll give them hell

- BY DEAN WILSON

ENGLAND have told fans to get down to Trent Bridge for “one hell of a final day” with the doors being thrown open for free.

And Ben Stokes’ side reckon they have got more than enough fire power to chase down anything – and secure a series win over New Zealand.

The Kiwis have a lead of 238 with three wickets in hand... and 90 overs available.

But confident England are convinced they will have enough time to hunt down whatever target they are set on the fast-scoring Nottingham ground.

“It’s going to be a great day,” said Ben Foakes (above), who saw England home to their target of 277 in the last Test at Lord’s alongside Joe Root.

“All three results are in play, so it should be one hell of a day.

“We’d like to chase as little as possible – but realistically, with how fast it’s been scoring, anything under 300 you’d say would be quite doable if you bat really well.

“Then with some of the guys we have in the dressing room, like Stokesy, it could be anything. You have no idea, really.

“That feeling I had walking off with Joe Root at Lord’s when we won the game, that’s the best feeling I’ve had in cricket and replicating that is something I want to do.

“We are feeling really positive up in the dressing room and the message is to always back yourself and take the positive option, play that style of cricket.

“It’s been a really good series so far and it’s shown by the way they want to approach it. The last couple of innings have suited me.

“At Surrey, I bat five and just bat. So being able to do that with Rooty and play my natural game has been really good.”
