Keane a brute to Erl’s dad

- BY DAVID McDONNELL

ERLING HAALAND’S father alf-inge was the victim of one of the most shocking challenges English football has ever witnessed.

alf-inge joined Manchester City from leeds for £2.5million in June 2000 – a month before son Erling was born.

and Haaland senior was on the end of an infamous brutal assault by roy Keane (above) during the Manchester derby at Old Trafford in april 2001.

Keane deliberately kicked Haaland on his right knee, in revenge for him allegedly accusing the United captain of feigning injury, three and half years earlier, in a game at Elland road.

Former midfielder Keane was subsequently fined £5,000 by the Fa and received a three-match ban.

in his autobiography, published a year later, Keane admitted the tackle was a premeditated act of vengeance against Haaland for the onfield criticism he received from him at leeds years before.

“i’d waited long enough,” wrote Keane. “i f ****** hit him hard. The ball was there, i think. Take that you c*** and don’t ever stand over me again sneering about fake injuries.

“i didn’t wait for Mr Elleray to show the red card. i turned and walked to the dressing room.”

Keane’s forthright admission saw him hit with an additional five-game ban and a £150,000 fine by the Fa, for bringing the sport into disrepute.

Haaland was watched by Erling (above) in his playing days in Manchester and, after surgery on his left knee, hung his boots up in July 2003.

Following Keane’s autobiography, Haaland and City considered taking legal action against Keane, but decided against it.
