Arecibo can make a Stand

-

FOCUs on ARECIBO (3.40) in the King’s stand stakes.

He loved the lightningfast pace when runner-up behind Oxted in this race 12 months ago.

there’s surely going to be a similar burn-up this time with american raider Golden Pal and many other frontrunners in the field which will suit robert Cowell’s speedster perfectly.

He raced away from the main pack when third behind King’s lynn in Haydock’s temple stakes so nothing could take him into the race long enough. that won’t be an issue today.

Have 1pt each-way at 33-1, with most bookies paying out on four places and sky bet going five.

impressive 2000 Guineas hero Coroebus is the hot favourite for the st James’s Palace stakes but ascot’s round mile might not suit him so well.

if the early gallop isn’t strong he could easily find traffic problems from his low draw so i’m backing two at big prices. irish trainer Jim bolger has won this race twice in the last nine years from just three runners.

His WEXFORD NATIVE (4.20) only made his debut at the end of March so his fourth behind Native trail in the irish 2,000 Guineas was a good effort.

He was only run out of second place in the closing stages having put it up to the winner and he should be well positioned in this race. Have 1pt each-way at 50-1.

BERKSHIRE SHADOW (4.20) is the other one i like.

He won the Coventry stakes on this day last year and he finished fourth behind Coroebus when best of those to race near the front. Have 1pt-each-way at 33-1.

HARROVIAN (5.35) loves fast ground.

He had some good form towards the end of last season and his fourth at the saudi Cup meeting was an excellent effort.

Have 1pt each-way at 10-1 with most bookies paying four places.
