Boxer whose boot soles were sponsored by the Mirror is now a bouncer
FORMER heavyweight champ Julius Francis — who once fought Mike Tyson — has been filmed flooring a reveller while working as a security guard.
The Mirror famously sponsored the soles of his boots in the Tyson fight in 2000 where he was knocked down twice in the first round and three times in the second.
Julius, 57, who was British champion, retired from the ring in 2006 but proved he had lost little of his power when he stepped in to sort out an altercation at Boxpark near Wembley Stadium.
Footage posted online showed a group of men arguing with security outside the venue.
At first Francis remained in the background. The group is moved out of the security cordon where they appear to continue to confront the staff.
One man appears to approach Francis and is met by the ex-boxer’s right hand which sends him to the ground. Francis walks away from the incident while the stricken man is helped by friends.
The Met Police said: “Police are aware of footage circulating on social media showing an incident involving security staff and a member of the public outside Boxpark in Wembley.
“An investigation into the circumstances, including to establish the identity and welfare of those involved, is under way. “There have been no arrests and inquiries are ongoing.” Boxpark boss Roger Wade said: “Julius Francis, is one of the nicest people I have ever met and helps train underprivileged young kids boxing in his spare time.” Francis was knocked out in the second round by Vitali Klitschko in 1998 before suffering the same fate against Tyson two years later. He would win just two more fights before losing 14 successive bouts until he hung up his gloves in 2005. andy.lines@mirror.co.uk
