No problem that Love is in the air

- Mark Howarth, Director of Racing at William Hill

WESLEY WARD has a good record in today’s Queen Mary (2.30) but we’re happy to take on Love Reigns this time around.

Her form isn’t working out that well Stateside and his horses are going off too short, so she’s one we’ll be taking on.

In the proceeding Queen’s Vase (3.05), we’re siding with Aidan O’Brien’s (above) Anchorage.

He hasn’t done much in his career but this step up in trip promises to bring about tons of improvement.

But we’re not as keen on another O’Brien runner, Mother Earth, in the Duke Of Cambridge (4.20).

She ran poorly last time in the Lockinge Stakes and we much prefer the chances of Bashkirova, who was impressive at Epsom on Derby day.

The Royal Hunt Cup (5.00) is one of the hardest puzzles to solve all week and there are a whole host in here with solid claims but we’ll be hoping Etonian can bounce back to form at a huge price.

He was progressive last season and if he can return to those levels, he wouldn’t be without a chance.

Looking back to yesterday, despite a raft of well-fancied horses going in, we’ve come away unscathed.

The relatively unfancied Bradsell did us a big favour by winning the Coventry, in which Blackbeard and Persian Force would have been our worst possible winners. In addition to that, all the late money that came for Golden Pal meant Nature Strip winning the King’s Stand was a far more bearable result than it looked earlier on in the morning.

Coroebus landed a bit of a blow in the St James’s Palace, but Bring On The Night’s defeat to Coltrane was a big swing for us and we roll into day two in good shape.
