A MOTHER desperately kicked and punched a vicious dog as it ripped her daughter’s face apart.

Luna-Ann Forsyth, four, had to get plastic surgery and more than 40 stitches after her cheek was mauled last week.

Mum Amy Hobson pulled her away from the dog, thought to be an American Bulldog, at her friend’s house.

The 32-year-old said: “He got hold of her face and got her to the ground.

“I was kicking and punching the dog to get him off her and I got my little girl off the floor and called 999 straight away. “There was loads of blood. “Luna was calm and brave, it was me that was panicking and crying.”

Amy had been shopping with Luna and her brother Darren when they went back to her friend’s home.

She said the dog was shut in a room upstairs but managed to open the door and came down. Amy said the animal launched its attack last Thursday after Luna simply called out its name.

Amy took Luna to A&E by taxi after 999 call handlers said it would take several hours for an ambulance to arrive.

She was operated on for more than two hours. Her cuts will take around 12 months to heal and doctors say she will have permanent scarring.

Amy, who lives on the same street as her friend in Nuneaton, Warks, is backing the Mirror’s campaign to Tame the Danger Dogs.

Revealing her daughter’s bravery, she said: “Even after everything, she is still smiling.” Amy said she and the dog’s owner are no longer friends, alleging she hid it from police for more than a day. Luna was taken to George Eliot Hospital in Nuneaton before being moved to University Hospital Coventry. She was later allowed to go home on Saturday evening. Last night there was some confusion over the fate of the dog.

Initial police reports suggested it had been destroyed but yesterday an online post from Nuneaton and Bedworth Police said it was still being “assessed”. A spokesman said: “We’re investigating an incident in which a child was bitten by a dog in the Camp Hill area of Nuneaton.

“The incident took place inside a property. The child sustained facial injuries, which required hospital treatment.”
