BARNET FLARE-UP

Wrexham appeal Mac red after Bees keeper’s ‘Hollywood acting’

- BY IAN WINROW

Barnet 0 Wrexham 0 WREXHAM are set to appeal the red card for Callum McFadzean that sparked an angry bust-up between boss Phil Parkinson and Barnet goalkeeper Laurie Walker.

The 51st-minute flashpoint led to McFadzean being sent off after the defender caught Walker in the face with his foot.

The National League leaders then held out for a draw that meant their advantage over nearest rivals Notts County was cut to one point on Saturday.

They can wrap up the title and a place back in the EFL if they beat Yeovil tomorrow and Boreham Wood on Saturday in back-to-back home games.

But they will be without McFadzean unless Parkinson succeeds in his bid to get the punishment overturned.

The Red Dragons boss confronted Walker after the final whistle, accusing the keeper of overreacting to the clash, earning himself a red card in the process.

Asked if the club would appeal McFadzean’s dismissal, Parkinson said: “Yes, definitely.

“We will put in an appeal about that. I said to the goalkeeper that I thought he made a meal of it.”

Walker responded to Parkinson’s criticism by triggering an online spat with Wrexham’s Hollywood co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

In a tweet that was quickly taken down, the keeper said: “@VancityReynolds how’s my acting skills mate, think I could play a part in your next film. I think your gaffer thinks I could.”

And McElhenney responded by tweeting: “I thought ‘own goals’ could only happen during the actual game.”

Wrexham can take another step towards the title against Yeovil – their game in hand on County – and defender Tom O’Connor said: “Overall it’s not a bad point with 10 men.

“We have got another big game on Tuesday. It’s easy to get carried away and look too far ahead, but they are going to want to upset us.”
