Clueless Sunak has sum cheek

- Edited by FIONA PARKER

■ THE Conservative destruction of the economy is now complete.

Thanks to Liz, Rishi, Kwasi, Jeremy and the Governor of the Bank of England, the IMF have confirmed we will not only have the worst performing economy in the G7 but also in the G20, even worse than sanctioned Russia.

Sadly, this incompetent financial management can only continue under a PM who thinks anyone who doesn’t understand basic maths ought to be embarrassed.

This is what happens when unelected officials take control. It’s time the rules were changed.

If an MP resigns or is ousted there’s a by-election, therefore if a PM resigns there should be a General Election.

Chris Torode Richmond, North Yorks

■ Polly Hudson hit the nail on the head (Mirror, April 19). Not everyone has a maths brain and some find the subject difficult but this doesn’t mean that they should be embarrassed.

Forcing students to study a subject until 18 that they don’t like won’t achieve anything.

This is just more deflection from a Prime Minister who has no solutions for families who are struggling to make ends meet, no solutions for the young person who can’t get on the housing ladder – and no solutions for the pensioner forced to choose between heating and eating.

The Tories are out of ideas and their plans just don’t add up.

B Hammond, Bournemouth

■ Rishi Sunak says adults who can’t understand basic maths ought to be embarrassed.

Here’s a maths lesson for him: The IMF forecasts our economic growth in the coming year will be the lowest in the G7 and the G20. How embarrassing is that?

And how embarrassing that teachers pay has fallen by 12% in real terms from 2010 to 2022 leading to a crisis in recruitment, while it’s estimated that 45% of schools have maths classes taught by non-specialists?

This country’s problems are down to 13 years of Tory economic failure, not an anti-maths mindset.

Sasha Simic, North London

■ Rishi Sunak says we must do better in maths but he and his incompetent ministers have failed every test going, from managing the economy and immigration and protecting the health service, policing and education.

And after his fine for not beltingup, our vastly wealthy PM is facing a new standards investigation for his family shares. The nation will hold him accountable at the polls.

Reg Barrett, Southminster, Essex

■ How can our multi-millionaire ministers understand people who are struggling to make ends meet?

Over the last 13 years we’ve had rich Tories running the country and they just don’t have a clue about poverty and making ends meet and don’t even care.

They are a disgraceful bunch of money-grabbers only looking after number one.

Alan Robinson, Liverpool

■ I’m no genius but it seems to me that Rishi Sunak is the one in need of a maths lesson.

Thanks to the Conservatives’ financial ineptitude, the IMF has forecast the UK is on course to be the worst performing economy in the G7 and the G20.

If that’s not something to be embarrassed about, Mr Sunak, I don’t know what is.

Steve Graham, Barnsley

■ If Rishi Sunak wants to improve the nation’s numeracy skills he should start with the members of the Tory Party.

The majority of them voted for Liz Truss, despite the fact her mad economic policies didn’t add up.
