TOMASSON: IT AIN’T ROVER TIL IT’S ROVER

- BY LINDSAY SUTTON

JON DAHL TOMASSON watched another sickening kick in the teeth to his side’s Premier League dream.

But the Blackburn boss refused to give up on making the play-offs as he rallied his players for one final push.

Rovers were sitting in the play-off places with seconds to play when Dominic Hyam turned into his own net, the second time in four days they had coughed up two points in stoppage-time.

Blackburn must pick themselves up again tomorrow night when they welcome champions-elect, Burnley, to Ewood Park, with Vincent Kompany’s side looking for the win to crown them champions.

Tomasson said: “Nobody thought we would be up here anyway, so we want to prove people wrong and make it happen.

“We are disappointed and frustrated the result didn’t come our way. We worked so hard, and then conceded the way we did.

“We should have buried the game with the chance we had just before the equaliser. We all know that. But that’s football. The guys are doing their best.

“We’re frustrated – it was unlucky. Even so, when you don’t get the three points, every point is important.

“Ours was an excellent goal from Sammie Szmodics, and well deserved. We could have been more clinical but it is great to see the boys working that hard.”

Szmodics’ (above) beautifully-taken ta strike 10 minutes from time looked lo to have sealed a vital win and a Ryan Hedges fluffed a one-on-one o chance to make it 2-0.

Four minutes into stoppage time, a cross from substitute Liam Delap was deflected into his own net by Hyam. Preston are still in the play-off mix and Delap said: “It “keeps us in there, and things can change so suddenly at this time of the season.”

Relieved North End boss Ryan Lowe said: “It feels like three points to us, and it leaves us still in there. We have two games left and will fight right to the end.”
