Plea over Emma left paralysed by tumour

A MUM left paralysed by a burst brain tumour has vowed to return home to be with the baby girl she gave birth to while in a coma.

Emma Taylor is still in an NHS rehab centre six months after doctors delivered little Ophelia by caesarean.

The 33-year-old, who was in a coma for three months, still cannot talk, and communicates with head and hand movements.

But because of pressures on the NHS, Emma will be moved to a low intensity rehab centre.

Now, partner Scott Weeks, 47, has started a GoFundMe page in a bid to get private treatment for her.

He said he fears that the move “will impact her progress”.

Scott added: “Emma can’t talk yet but she has showed she is determined to get better for our daughter.

“I’m trying to get money together so she can get the best treatment. I can tell how frustrated she is.

“She’s trapped in her own body and I know all that she wants is to come home to her baby.” Dental hygienist Emma, of Chelmsford, Essex, collapsed one evening last October after complaining of headaches. She was seven-and-a-half months pregnant.

Due to a lack of ambulances, Scott drove her to Broomfield Hospital. Doctors decided to deliver Ophelia six weeks early so they could scan Emma without affecting the tot and put the mum in an induced coma first.

They found a non-cancerous brain tumour.

Scott said: “It had burst after pregnancy hormones accelerated its growth. This caused a bleed on the brain.

“Her right brain stem and right eye were affected, leaving her left side paralysed and blind in one eye.”

Emma was airlifted to Queen’s Hospital in Romford, where surgeons cut out two-thirds of the 60mm tumour.

She is now recovering at Northwick Park Hospital in North West London.
