Bellfield cops refuse to hunt for our girl’s body to dig
Family fury at claim site ‘too vast’
THE family of a student Levi Bellfield claimed to have murdered say police won’t start a search for her body despite the serial killer marking its location on a map
Elizabeth Chau’s furious loved ones say detectives are holding back on a dig as the area identified is “too vast”.
Bellfield, 55, serving a whole-life term for the murders of schoolgirl Milly Dowler, Marsha McDonnell and Amelie Delagrange, even offered to lead detectives to Elizabeth’s remains.
He had confessed to snatching the 19-year-old in 1999 near to her home in Ealing, West London.
After a tense two-hour meeting with homicide detectives this week, Elizabeth’s brother, Minh-Vu, told the Guardian: “We have lost trust in the police as they are acting too slowly. They have enough to try and verify if Elizabeth is there.”
Elizabeth’s sister Bic-Hang Chau insisted the area was not “vast” and added: “They are not doing anything as Elizabeth is not a priority. The meeting was hard and disappointing.”
At the time Elizabeth vanished, Bellfield, then a bouncer, lived near to her last known sighting.
Police told her family an excavation could take months and have not committed to dig the site.
Bellfield’s solicitor Theresa Clark was present when he made his confession in Frankland prison and showed officers a map. She said: “I could see the area. He put a cross. It was specific. It did not look vast.”
Police are said to be preparing to consult forensic experts as well as specialists in digging sites.
