£250k hut property

No-frills beach building on sale for price of nearby houses

A BEACH hut will become the most expensive ever sold in Wales if it achieves its asking price of £250,000.

The double-fronted hut is on the main beach in the village of Abersoch, Gwynedd, where the previous hut price record of £200,000 was set in 2022.

The hut’s estimate is almost £50,000 more than the average house price in Wales, £214,000.

Just over 30 miles from the hut, in Y Felinheli, the Mirror found an impressive three-storey end-terrace period property on the market, for the same £250,000-plus asking price.

The quarter of a million pounds asked will get any buyer a simple 26ft by 10ft building, with very few frills.

The huts on the beach are not connected to the mains water and staying overnight is strictly forbidden.

Despite this, the buyer will still have to pay council tax on the property, which is estimated to be nearly £800 this year.

But the hut’s appeal is its location – it’s a stone’s throw from the sea and a sailing club.

Grace Earnshaw, from Wilmslow in Cheshire, who was enjoying a day on the beach with her two young daughters, was unsurprised by the price tag.

She added: “It’s in a good location. It’s probably going to go for a lot more than that.”

But the beach hut sale has angered Plaid Cymru MP Mabon ap Gwynfor, who said: “Young people have no chance of getting housing in their own communities. It’s a perfect example of how the property market lets Wales down.”

Written offers for the beach hut must be submitted before the end of June.
